Work your orders
Find the jobs assigned to you, tell the story in the 3C, add the parts and labor you used, and mark the work done.
This is the core loop of your day: open a job that's assigned to you, document what you found and fixed, put the parts and labor on the ticket, and hand it back ready to bill.
Find and open your work
Check My Work on your phone. The field portal home is My Work — only the labor lines and inspections assigned to you, grouped by vehicle. Tap a vehicle to open the job.
Or use the Tickets list on the shop computer. Click Orders in the sidebar. The All Open tab shows every live ticket; use the search box (Search order #, customer, VIN, unit…) to jump to yours. Lines assigned to you show your name in the Time on Job panel once you open the order.
Open the order and read the ticket. The top of the order shows the customer, the vehicle, and the complaint. Clock onto the line before you start wrenching — see Clock in and out.
Tell the story in the 3C
The 3C — Complaint, Cause, Correction — is the record the customer reads and the shop stands behind.
Click Edit on the order. The edit form has four story fields: Customer Complaint, Cause / Diagnosis, Correction / Work Performed, and Internal Note (shop-only, never printed for the customer).
Write what you found and what you did. Plain shop language is fine — every field has a mic button for dictation and a sparkle button that rewrites your rough note into customer-ready prose. See Polish your notes.
Save the order. Your text lands on the ticket and on the customer's printed copy.
Add a part line
Click Add line item at the bottom of the Line Items table. The line type starts on Part.
Search for the part. Type a partial part number in the Part # or search… box. Each result shows the price and an availability hint: a green number like (4) means it's on the shelf here. If it's out at your location but another location has it, an amber badge reads Out here · 3 at TRUCK1. No stock anywhere shows Out of stock everywhere.
Pick the part, set the quantity, and click Add. The description and price fill in for you at the customer's price level. A part tagged KIT expands into all its component lines automatically, and a part tagged CORE adds a separate core deposit line alongside it.
Add a labor line
Click Add line item and switch the type to Labor.
Search the labor guide. Type in the Search labor guide… box and pick an operation. The book hours fill the quantity and the shop's labor rate fills the price.
Click Add, then assign yourself. In the Time on Job panel, set the line's Technician dropdown to your name — that's what puts the line on your My Work list and lets you clock onto it.
Mark work done and set the status
Mark your lines complete. On the job screen in the field portal, tap Mark complete on each finished labor line — it gets a blue Done badge, and the shop side shows Tech complete. Tap Reopen if you jumped the gun.
Move the order along. On the order page, open the Actions menu. Use Mark In Progress when you start, Waiting on Parts when you're stuck, and Mark Completed when the vehicle is ready. Invoicing is the writer's job from there.
What happens behind the scenes
Every part line you add pulls from your location's real inventory and puts the part's cost on the job, so the shop's stock counts and job profit stay true. Labor lines carry both billed hours and your clocked actual hours — that pairing drives efficiency reporting and, in some shops, suggested billing. Marking a line Tech complete signals the writer the work is ready to review, and the order status you set is what everyone sees on the shop board.
Troubleshooting
My Work only shows labor lines assigned to you. Open the order's Time on Job panel and set the line's Technician dropdown to your name — or ask the writer to. If My Work says your login isn't linked to an employee, a manager needs to link it on your employee page.
Once an order is invoiced or closed it locks — parts are consumed and money has posted. Ask the writer; changes past that point go through them.
Another location has it — the badge names the location and quantity. See Look up parts for getting stock moved, or flag your parts desk.
Technician logins are the most locked-down role in Meridian. If a button you expect is missing, it's a permission, not a bug — ask your service writer or manager to make the change.
