Using voice and AI text
Dictate notes with the mic, enrich rough write-ups into customer-ready prose, translate on the spot, and revert anything.
Your complaint and correction notes end up on the customer's invoice — these tools turn counter shorthand into wording you'd be proud to print, without retyping. They live on every enrichable field: line-item descriptions, the 3 Cs, and customer and vehicle notes.
Dictate a note
Find the tools. Hover an enrichable field and a small row of buttons appears beneath it: the Enrich sparkle, Translate, the mic, and History. (The mic only shows on browsers that support it — Chrome and Safari; it hides on the rest, which is correct, not a bug.)
Start talking. Click the mic to open Voice to text, then tap the big mic button — it turns red and pulses while it listens. Speak naturally; your words stream into the transcript box, with the still-forming phrase shown in grey until it settles. Tap the button again to stop.
Choose replace or append. Under When applied, pick Replace to overwrite the field or Append to add your dictation onto what's already there. Click Use transcript and the field updates.
Enrich and translate
Enrich rough text. Click the Enrich sparkle. A dialog opens with a side-by-side view — your Original on one side and the cleaned-up, customer-ready rewrite on the other. Meridian flags it if the rewrite runs much longer than the original, so nothing balloons unnoticed.
Tweak before you commit. Happy with it? Click Apply. Want to adjust a word? Click Edit, change the text in place, and then Apply. Discard backs out and leaves the field untouched — nothing is changed until you apply.
Translate on the spot. Tap Translate to convert the field to your shop's default language. Need a different target? Long-press the button (or right-click on a desktop) to open the Translate to picker and choose the language. The same before-and-after preview shows, and Apply commits it.
Review history and batch the day
Open the timeline. Click History to see every version of the field, newest at the bottom, each tagged by how it got there — Original, Transcribed, Enriched, Translated, or Edited — with the current version badged Current.
Revert anything. On any earlier entry, click Revert to this, then confirm with Revert. The old wording becomes current again — and the version you just replaced stays in history, so nothing is ever destroyed.
Polish the whole day at once. The dashboard's Polish today's stories card gathers the line descriptions you wrote today that haven't been cleaned up yet. Tick the ones you want, click Polish N stories, and Meridian enriches them in one pass before the invoices go out — or Dismiss all to skip them.
What happens behind the scenes
- Enrich and Translate never touch the field until you click Apply. They generate a preview you approve; the original is safe until then, and it's kept in history either way.
- Every change is a new version, not an overwrite. Dictating, enriching, translating, and hand-edits each append a history entry. The timeline only ever grows, so Revert to this can always walk you back — there's no way to lose the words you started with.
- Voice runs in your browser. The mic uses your browser's built-in speech recognition, which is why it only appears where that's supported; the transcript is saved as a Transcribed version on the field when you use it.
- Polishing at day's end is the same enrich, in bulk. The dashboard card runs the customer-ready rewrite across each selected line and reports how many succeeded, so a stack of terse descriptions becomes print-ready in one click.
Troubleshooting
Your browser doesn't support in-browser voice capture. Meridian hides the mic rather than showing a dead button — use Chrome or Safari for dictation, or type the note. If you open voice anyway on an unsupported browser, you'll get a "Voice not supported here" note.
Meridian will say it didn't catch any audio and let you tap to try again. Check that the right microphone is selected and the browser has permission to use it, then move closer and speak up.
The field is empty — there's nothing to rewrite. Type or dictate a rough note first, then enrich it.
Click Edit in the preview to fix it before applying, or Discard to keep your original. If you already applied it, open History and Revert to this on the earlier entry — the previous wording comes right back.
